I decided to changed the name cuz i thought that it was confusing since the dates of Singapore and California can be different at times. Gotta wake up early tomorrow so gonna try to make this short.
Slept like a pig till the alarm blared at 930am. I am really grateful that the bed is so awesome. At least we can recover ourselves after the night’s rest. Washed up and since there was still a little bit of time till 11am (Peggy will pick us up then. Really nice of her!). I decided to walk around the area and take some photos. Have to say the photos did not turn out well but i was more of capturing as many moments as possible and hence quality is compromised.
Gate and a short path (surrounded by nice lawn patch) that leads to our dorm. That’s the door that we enter from.
Our dining area (again)! Pardon that grey thing on the left. That’s not my shirt. It’s not.
Laundry area. We actually cleverly bought the exact same detergent despite the label stating that it’s for guest. In fact, the fault lies in me cuz i didnt sound off that there was this when we brought the detergent for an exchange(we got the wrong type). It didnt occur to me that we are the “guest” who are eligible to use that. Honest.
Here’s the kitchen again in the day.
The television area which we dont use since we already have television in each of our rooms!
A cutie found.
“overview” of our place
The door that we us to come in from.
After that, we got ready our first self-prepared-meal@UCSB: Milk and Cereals!!! As we just gotten the plates out of the cupboard, we decided to wash up some of them and that took some time.
Ingredients? Checked!
The making process (how tedious lol)
The eating process. Of course, an asian practise, take the photos first.
Fed ourselves got changed and Peggy was here! Glad to have wore long johns and a t-shirt within and those helped keep me warm rather effectively despite the rain and wind.
We first went to Best Buy to look for available SIM cards. However, they do not provide SIMs for iphones (what the others are using) so we left and went to AT&T (a telecom over there and of which reminded me of m1 due to its colour scheme). We got a plan which is $25 /month, unlimited text (they charge both in and out going sms fare!!) and 250mins talk time. After we are done, it was time for school.
So we indeed went to the UCSB and but that main purpose was just to introduce us to the group of professors (whom we believes to be, like Peggy, teacher trainers). What was required of us was basically, self-introduction. It was funny that the first comment made about the three of us was (to Peggy), “wow, i see that you have brought 3 kids together with you!” Indeed, we were kiddish faced. And, that’s it! We were free to go around the school. After looping around the Gervitz (pronounced: Ger-vert-z) Graduate School a couple of times hunting for the logo for a photo, we finally found it and decided to move on to look for the university centre. So we walk around and took photos. Here are some of them (photos of me would be in the camera of others so yea…):
the floor plan of Gevirtz
Took us two loops around the compound to locate this
New spokespersons of Gevirtz
And they are actually on a hill. Puny too!
Nice outdoor areas with interesting plants.
The road and car park
Trees which are stripping their bark
Our spokesmen again
Storke Tower
See that pond over there, seems bare? There are many interesting organisms!!!
The duckies!!!
University Center
With a strange liking for hello kitty stuffs
It drizzled a couple of times (apparently, the rain was following us) and we have to wait for peggy’s meeting to end and send us back to our unit. Initially, we were planning on walking back ourselves actually. When we reached home, we started preparing our lunch! We attempted salmon (which Cheryl and Srijith got while we were at UCSB)+mash potato+salad. Sadly, i dont have any photo of it since the others took lotsa them.
After lunch (3+pm), we exchanged our new phone number and made plans for the night. We decided to walk down to the Santa Barbara Plaza for dinner. And we did indeed. Just as we were to step out, it rained. Talked lotsa nonsenses along the way with most being about this star alliance nonsense that Srijith and I somehow came up and build on. HAHA! Since we had late lunch and were not as hungry upon reaching, we walked around the area. Went into a shop name Ross and it’s rather amazing. It got numerous branded goods selling at a much cheaper price. Rejected stocks perhaps but they still looked rather good and convincing. As my SIM card somehow failed to work on my nokia phone, I returned to the shop to troubleshoot. in the end, it was the phone that was incompatible to the SIM. Argh, brought a phone for nothing… Had dinner (some mexican food which looked like a popiah with rice and pork inside) and it was really filling. Went to the supermart and got my shavers and some fruits and off we go back to the dorms. Guess what?! It started raining again the moment we stepped out.
This basically concludes the day. Did like to do more commenting rather than recounting but I am kinda tired. Have dozed off a couple of times while typing this… Shall add the photos in when there’s time. Wonder how long will i be able to keep this up… Hmm… Night world!
